HDTV Televisions
HDTV, also known as High-Definition Television, is set to become the new entertainment standard as we steadily approach 2009's transition from analog tv to digital tv broadcasts, as mandated by Federal Law.
But why wait for 2009 to make the transition, when HDTVs are here and readily available in a variety of sizes and brands. The prices have steadily dropped and it's more affordable than ever to get a big screen HDTV.
Here are Optimum AVD's picks for Showcase HDTVs that took our breath away.

Best LCD HDTV

Sony KDL-52XBR5
Sony's 52" inch BRAVIA XBR series LCD Flat Panel HDTV took our award for the BEST LCD HDTV. Rolling in at 1080p resolution, Sony's top of the line BRAVIA took our breath away with it's amazing black level contrast performance and gorgeous accurate color. At a massive 52 inches, Sony's KDL-46XBR4 easily outperforms any other LCD HDTV we've seen. The dynamic contrast ratio of 18000:1 also provides some of the deepest blacks we've seen in an LCD HDTV. While not as impressive as some of the best Plasmas we've seen, the KDL-46XBR4 defnitely puts up a good fight and its a good bet that LCD HDTVs are set to keep on impressing us in the near future as technology improves.
Retail price is around $3,299 for the SONY Bravia KDL-46XBR4.
Best Plasma HDTV

Panasonic TH-58PZ700U
The 58 inch Panasonic TH-58PZ700U plasma offers superb blacks and highly accurate color temperature. The image quality is sharp and features a 5000:1 contrast ration. It easily outperforms many rear projection sets and nearly all plasmas we've tested, offering all around excellent picture quality. If you're concerned about the infamous Plasma burn-in problem that plagues nearly all plasmas, you will be glad to know that Panasonic has a special Pixel Wobblying feature, that imperceptibly shifts the image one pixel at a time to the left so that burn in never happens.
Retail price is around $3,499 for the Panasonic TH-58PZ700U.
